Daniel 10:12-13 KJV
Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Daniel was in Babylonian captivity during this time; he served the king with loyalty and ability. Despite his captivity, he remained loyal to the God of Israel. Daniel decided to inquire of the Lord on behalf of his people via prayer & fasting.
Three Full Weeks:
Daniel 10:2-3 AMP In those days, I, Daniel, had been mourning for three entire weeks. I ate no tasty food, nor did any meat or wine enter my mouth, and I did not anoint (refresh, groom) myself at all for the entire three weeks.
Daniel had seen A vision that involved his people for A latter time. He had A made-up mind, and he was determined to inquire of the Lord and seek understanding on behalf of his people. A messenger of God was sent the first day that Daniel set his heart to understand and fast before GOD. However, the angel-faced opposition and delay. Notice the angel told Daniel, “He came because of his words” never underestimate the power of prayer.
Demonic opposition – Daniel was told about the opposition the Angel faced for 21 days the Angel was battling with the Prince of Persia. There was A satanic delay assigned over the answer to Daniel’s prayer. This shows us how Satan works to thwart/overthrow our prayers and the answers to our prayers.
Satan’s goal is to hinder Christians from breaking through in prayer, which will advance the kingdom of God. He will attempt to hinder, impede, block, obstruct and restrain us. The kingdom of darkness focuses most of its activity on hindering/delaying the saints of God.
Spurgeon wrote, “Since the first hour in which goodness came into conflict with evil, it has never ceased to be true in spiritual experience, that Satan hinders us. From all points of the compass, all along the line of battle, in the vanguard and in the rear, at the dawn of day and in the midnight hour, Satan hinders us. If we toil in the field, he seeks to break the ploughshare; if we build the wall, he labors to cast down the stones; if we would serve God in suffering or in conflict–everywhere, Satan hinders us.”
This explains the need for our faith to be strong and grounded; it also shows why we need fervency in prayer. If Daniel had given up on day 15, he wouldn’t have received his answer. It was possibly the fervent prayers of Daniel that sent reinforcement for the Angel.
From this chapter in the Book of Daniel, we learn a lot about the unseen battle we face daily. Our struggle is never against flesh and blood;(Eph 6:12); we are in A constant struggle with spiritual beings.
We wrestle against:
Principalities: (The principal, chief magistrate)
Powers: (“exousia” meaning one who possesses authority or influence)
Rulers of the darkness of this age: (kosmokrator, Rulers of the present world order which includes the worldly affairs of mankind)
Spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places: epouranios”, also translated as “heavenly places,” refers to the sphere of activity or existence above, in contrast to that of the earth.
Spirit of Delay:
Most delays are caused because Satan works to hinder us. Satan will continue to hinder things in our lives until we gird up and take back everything he has stolen from us. The apostle Paul was hindered as he tried to reach the brethren in Thessalonica.
1 Thessalonians 2:17-18 AMP
But since we were taken away from you, believers, for a little while—in person, but not in heart—we endeavored, with great longing to see you face to face. For we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again [wanted to come], but Satan hindered us.
Opposition from human vessels:
Satan will use willing human vessels (satanic agents) to oppose the work of God. When Ezra and Nehemiah began to work, Sanballat and Tobiah were stirred up to hinder them. Despite the satanic opposition, the people still had A heart to work.
In this hour, we will need A heart that is willing to stand and seek understanding from GOD to continue to do the work in which God has called us to do. When Nehemiah was opposed, he continued praying to GOD, while Daniel was fasting, he was persistent in prayer; these men both had A made-up mind/heart. Although the Apostle Paul faced satanic opposition, he finished the course. He completed everything GOD called him to do; he also had A made-up mind.
2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good and worthy and noble fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith [firmly guarding the gospel against error].
In closing, now it’s time to gird up for war; use your spiritual weapons and the authority you have through Jesus Christ to stand up against the satanic host that’s warring against your prayers, blessings, breakthroughs, and restorations.
The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy, but Jesus came to give us an abundant life; our life should be full and overflowing. (John 10:10 AMP) God calls us to stay in persistent prayer and fasting to break the spiritual forces of delay, hindrance, and stagnation. Most of all, remember your war is in the heavenlies heavenly host are working against us night and day. Let us not forget we have the victory through Jesus to win this spiritual war. God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ; we are called to lay hold the promises of God.
How to overcome satanic opposition/delay:
1. Remain steadfast: 1 Corinthians 15:58 AMP, Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is never without purpose].
2. Remain Fervent in Prayer & Fasting: James 5:16 AMP
Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].
3. Fear not and fight: Nehemiah 4:14 AMP
When I saw their fear, I stood and said to the nobles and officials and the rest of the people: “Do not be afraid of them[confidently] remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and [with courage from Him] fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and for your homes.”
My prayer for you all:
Ask God to teach your hands to war and your fingers to fight:
Psalms 144:1 Blessed be the Lord, my Rock and my great strength, Who trains my hands for war And my fingers for battle;’
Submit to God, yield to his Spirit, and Obey him:
James 4:7
Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Pray for A sober mind, Pray for discernment and wisdom from God:
1 Peter 5:8-9
‘Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.] ‘
