Understanding Godly Wisdom

There are two types of wisdom: earthly, sensual, soulish (demonic) wisdom, and Godly wisdom. It’s important that we understand and can identify true Heavenly (Godly) wisdom to avoid deception.
Godly wisdom is necessary for born-again believers in Jesus Christ who want to obey and completely follow God’s will.
In this post, we’ll explain the difference between earthly and Godly wisdom and share a prayer to help us hear from and obey God.

Defining Wisdom
Wisdom is the ability or result of an ability to think, acknowledge, experience, understand, common sense and insight.
- God understands the way to wisdom, true wisdom.
Earthly Wisdom vs Godly Wisdom
James 3:17-18 KJV [17] But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. [18] And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
The possession of Godly wisdom is above rubies, and anything we desire cannot be compared.
- Godly Wisdom is the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord!
When we have Godly wisdom, we seek what’s above, which is always pure and morally undefiled. Godly wisdom will never cause you to degrade or do immoral acts. Walking in Godly wisdom helps us have good sense, become skillful and intelligent in administration, and be prudent in all ethical behavior. Only God can give us this wisdom, understanding, and practical Insight.
James 3:14-16 KJV But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. [15] This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. [16] For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

Earthly Wisdom
Earthly wisdom comes from bitterness, jealousy, and selfish ambition. Its superficial, secular, and unspiritual nature results in arrogance, rejection of truth, disorder, unrest, and rebellion.
An example of unspiritual earthly wisdom is when someone gives you advice that hinders your spiritual progress or causes you to regress instead of growing in spiritual maturity.
Remember to focus on Jesus Christ and consider the source when receiving advice. If the person giving you advice is bitter, envious, or jealous, they may not have your best interests at heart. Your growth in Christ may expose their shortcomings, prompting them to offer unwise and unspiritual guidance to steer you away from God’s true wisdom. Guard Your Heart!
Prayer:
In Ephesians, the Apostle prayed for the saints to have true wisdom. Let’s pray that same prayer for our eyes to be enlightened.
Dear Heavenly Father and God of Glory,
Please grant us a spirit of wisdom and revelation, giving us deep, personal, and intimate insight into the true knowledge of Jesus Christ.
We can only know the Father through Jesus Christ. Our Lord, let the eyes of our hearts be enlightened to know your will. Help us to understand and cherish the hope, which is the confident assurance for what is lawful to which God has called us.
Teach us the immeasurable, unlimited, and surpassing greatness of God’s active spiritual power in us who believe. Give us wisdom, understanding, and knowledge to do your will, and Father, help us to discern between good and evil. In Jesus’ Name Amen!
God Bless!
