How many people have said, “There must be more to life than this”? It’s common to feel this way, especially when we are at the end of our rope and our current circumstances.

We are called to live a purposeful life, which can only be achieved through our obedience to God. Our true purpose is only found through Jesus Christ.

In this post, I will share how we need to be conscientious as faithful disciples of Christ, to obey, and most importantly, find our purpose in life.

What is a conscientious person?

Conscientious individuals are diligent, thorough, and careful in their work or duties. They are generally reliable, responsible, and have a strong sense of duty.

Conscientious individuals are attentive to detail, fulfill commitments, and strive to do things correctly and ethically. Their conscientiousness often results in high-quality outcomes and a strong reputation for dependability.

  • Isaiah 56:4-6 AMP This is what the Lord says, “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths And choose what pleases Me, And hold firmly to My covenant,
  •  [5] To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial, And a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name which will not be cut off.
  • [6] “Also the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, To minister to Him, and to love the name of the Lord, To be His servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath without profaning it And holds fast to My covenant [by conscientious obedience];

Rewards for Obedience

In Isaiah 56, God shows the rewards for obedience. The people were commanded to maintain justice and righteousness. Whoever was willing to hear and obey God would be blessed. God commands us to take hold of His words.

When you truly take hold of God’s words, you are willing to capture, grasp, or seize his commands.

The scripture explains what God called his people to obey during this time:

  1. Keep the Sabbath without profaning it. Isaiah 56:2
  2. Keep your hand from doing evil. Isaiah 56:2

Even for Gentiles in this scripture, if they were willing and obedient to obey God, choose what pleases Him, and hold firmly to His covenant agreement, God promises them rewards (blessings) for their obedience.

Isaiah 56:7 AMP[7] All these I will bring to My holy mountain And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”

An Obedient Heart

Our obedience requires a renewed heart. Sometimes, our flesh wants to do its own will, which is opposed to God’s will.

The will of man (the flesh) is opposed to the will of God. When the commandment comes, sin is revived. I recently experienced this when God commanded me to follow His will instead of my own. Outwardly, I was willing to conform, but inwardly, He showed me the bitterness, disdain, rebellion, and contrariness in my heart. Although I was willing to obey God externally, I had an internal issue that I needed to confess and repent to God.

God desires us to obey Him with a joyful heart rather than just going through the motions. This became clear to me as I was reading Isaiah 56 and reflecting on obeying from a sincere heart. When you obey from the heart, you are motivated by a genuine desire to:

  • Do what is right at all times.
  • Do your work and assignments well, as unto the Lord.
  • Be diligent in everything you do.
  • Meticulously obey what you’re told.

With this renewed change of heart, you will become reliable, thorough, attentive, and well-organized in all matters, including submitting to God’s will. It is important to practice self-discipline and self-control to pursue and achieve God’s purposes and goals for your life.

Today, I want to encourage you to pray for a renewed heart to follow and obey God’s will for your life cheerfully. This will lead to a purposeful and abundant life. Remember, God’s will is eternal, so He is preparing us to live in eternity with Him rather than on this temporary earth.

Ezekiel 36:24-27 AMP [24] For I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. [25] Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all your idols. [26] Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you, and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. [27] I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My ordinances and do them.
